The ideal number of
crew is six or seven, we will always race as close to the 1100 lb
weight limit as possible. Most of our racing is on windward leeward
courses and we will aim to do windward (port) drops of the spinnaker
whenever possible. ie: jib up, pole down, free fly then drop chute
(port side) and round the mark. The spinnaker pole is stowed along the
boom. The crew positions are as follows:
Foredeck
Pit
2
Sail trimmers
Tactician
Helm
Description of what
each person does:
Foredeck
Anything from the mast forward is the foredeck's responsibility,
setting and stowing the spinnaker pole, raising and lowering spinnaker
halyard, raising and lowering the jib halyard, gathering the jib on
deck (when lowered) and gybing the spinnaker pole.

Pit
The pit person is in the middle of the boat controlling halyards,
raising the jib, controlling pole topping lift/downhaul and switching
spinnaker sheet twings during gybe.
Tip: Before reaching the windward mark have the
spinnaker twings already set ie: Guy side trimmed on and the sheet side
eased.
Tip: When the pole is removed for "human pole", ease
the guy twing, this makes the human pole easier.

description of "Pit" job...
Sail Trimmers
Trim sails both upwind and downwind.
Tip: While approaching the windward mark on
starboard, before the pole is raised make sure the lazy (starboard) jib
sheet is off the winch.
Tip: Do not pre feed the spinnaker guy until the
pole is raised and in position.
Tip: Spinnaker sheet trimmer can help tail the guy
while prefeeding before the set.
Tip: On the spinnaker set do not ease the jib too
far prior to raising the chute (It will foul the spinnaker, especially
if the pre-feed did not happen)
Tactician
Decides where we go on the race course, when we tack or gybe. The
tactician also trims the main sail in medium and heavy air.
Helm
Drives the boat and trims the main in light air.
Seventh person
Human pole, also helps launch and gather the spinnaker. Note with only
six on board the tactician or second sail trimmer may be doing these
duties.
